When Jesus returned to His hometown of Nazareth He went to the synagogue and proclaimed these words from Isaiah about His ministry:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me. Because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind. And To release the oppressed.”
I want to focus on the fact that Christ has come to heal the Brokenhearted. He is assuming that we are all brokenhearted because you don’t get through this world with a whole heart. How do we let Christ heal our hearts?
Faith and Repentance
Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in you heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”
Did you hear that? Believe in your HEART. It is with your HEART that you believe. We must put our deep hearted faith in Christ and we will receive Salvation.
Once you give over your heart to Him He will work within it and begin to heal it. We must remember this is not a “Quick Fix” this doesn’t happen overnight, we receive Him and are forgiven but the wounds are still there, they slowly heal. Remember Jesus is binding them up; we are a work in progress.
As we draw closer to the heart of the Savior he sheds more and more light upon the areas in our heart that we have hidden in darkness. We must ask Him to reveal those places we keep hidden, those sinful things we hold dear like pain, guilt, abandonment, fear, addictions, anger, and hate. He wants to remove those and wants you to replace them with love for Him. It is easier to keep these things in the darkness than to let the love of Christ work and bring them to the forefront where we have to address the sins we carry.
The Three Obstacles to a Healing Heart
There are three obstacles that we are confronted with that thwart our path to a healed heart. The world tells us what will fill our empty hearts, a good job, sex, money, friends, drugs, and pride. Our flesh tells us that we are fine the way we are in fact those things the world is offering look good and they would help our wounded and empty heart. The Enemy hates our Heart because he sees the glare and reflection of Heaven’s glory in it, he wants to devour us and see our heats turned wicked.
It is usually one of those that we are fighting with almost daily, I know that I am, but the Lord is good and faithful to see us through, He has a plan for us to come to him and be healed.
Here are the lyrics to a Jars of Clay song:
My wings don’t sail me to the sky
On my own these wings won’t fly
Jesus told me so
Still I’m not so sure that I know
Can’t find no rest for my soul
Can’t find no rest on my own
Jesus told me so
Still I’m not so sure that I know
Man, the trouble is
We don’t know who we are instead
I’ll keep runnin’ the other way
My heart ain’t built to stay
My heart ain’t built to stay
And the world just ain’t that way
My heart ain’t built to stay
My heart ain’t built to stay
Jesus told me so
Jesus reminds us that our hearts are not build to stay here that they have a true home and that is in the Fathers glory where our hearts were forged.
